Ole Miss Track Star Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan Named SEC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year
By Birmingham, Ala., according to the Southeastern Conference, Ole Miss track and field standout Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan has been named SEC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year for the sixth time, the conference announced Monday.
Robinson-O’Hagan, a senior from Woonsocket, Rhode Island, suffered a significant leg injury following the SEC Outdoor Championships, ending his season and his collegiate career. Despite the injury, he made history by becoming the winningest men’s athlete in SEC history after his third consecutive sweep of the shot put and hammer throw at his final meet as a Rebel.
He tied the SEC record for overall individual titles with 13, and his career included four national titles, 14 All-America honors, 14 SEC medals, and six SEC Field Athlete of the Year awards. Over his career, he scored 75 NCAA points and 144 SEC points, according to Ole Miss athletics.
Robinson-O’Hagan holds the collegiate record in combined outdoor shot and hammer throw distance at 98.50 meters and ranks second all-time in combined indoor shot and weight throw at 45.53 meters. His achievements also include placements on the all-time top-25 lists in the shot, weight, and hammer throws, with records that have marked Ole Miss history.
His accomplishments extend beyond individual titles, helping elevate Ole Miss in national rankings during his tenure. The SEC also named Jelani Watkins of Arkansas as the men’s outdoor track and field runner of the year, while other award winners were recognized across various categories, including freshmen and newcomers.
Robinson-O’Hagan’s legacy includes his record-setting performances and his role as one of the most promising young American prospects in the shot put and hammer throw disciplines, according to the conference release.
