Ole Miss Track & Field’s Jordan Urrutia Advances to NCAA 200-Meter Final

Eugene, Ore. — Ole Miss men’s track and field sophomore Jordan Urrutia advanced to the NCAA outdoor championships final in the 200-meter dash Wednesday at Hayward Field. Urrutia finished third in his heat with a time of 20.36 seconds, missing the automatic qualifying spot by one but earning a spot as a time qualifier for Friday’s final.

Urrutia’s qualification marks the first time an Ole Miss athlete has reached the NCAA 200-meter final since Olympian Isiah Young finished second in 2013. Urrutia is one of three underclassmen to qualify for the final, set for 8:37 p.m. Central Time.

The sophomore has set multiple school records this season. Indoors, he broke records in the 200-meter (20.60 seconds) and 300-meter (33.06 seconds) and anchored the record-setting 4×400-meter relay team (3:06.69). Outdoors, he posted the fastest 200-meter time since 2013 with a 20.31-second run and scored a sixth-place finish at the SEC championships, the best since Young’s 2013 title.

In addition to his individual success, Urrutia helped Ole Miss’ 4×100-meter relay team finish 11th at the NCAA championships on Wednesday evening, earning Second-Team All-America honors. The relay team clocked 38.86 seconds in the semifinals, the second-best mark in school history, behind only a sixth-place finish in 2002.

Senior Logan Kelley wrapped up his stellar career with his first All-America honor in the men’s pole vault, tying for 14th place at 5.35 meters (17 feet, 6.50 inches). Kelley ranks among Ole Miss’ top pole vaulters, with indoor and outdoor records of 5.46 meters (17-11) and 5.40 meters (17-8.50), respectively.

The Ole Miss women will compete Thursday, starting with the 4×100-meter relay at 7:05 p.m. CT. Senior Alicia Burnett will also compete in the 100-meter semifinals at 8:25 p.m. CT.
