Five Mississippi State Athletes Earn All-American Honors at NCAA Outdoor Championships
EUGENE, Ore. — Five Mississippi State track and field athletes earned All-American honors on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, held Wednesday in Eugene, Oregon, according to the university.
Juha Narhi highlighted the day for the Bulldogs, earning second-team All-American honors in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 66.48 meters. That distance tied his personal best and program record, placing him 14th. Narhi became the first men’s hammer thrower in program history to earn All-American recognition.
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team made program history by qualifying for the finals with a school-record time of 38.73 seconds during the preliminary round. The relay, composed of Nicholas Fakorede, Kibren Moore, Gabriel Scott and Sherman Hawkins Jr., is the first MSU team to reach the NCAA final in the short relay since 2009.
Additionally, the men’s 4×400-meter relay team secured second-team All-American honors with a time of 3:03.40, finishing 15th in the preliminaries. The team included Keayari Lee, Malachi Burton, Harry Ross-Hughes, and Hawkins Jr.
Several athletes saw their seasons end at the championships. Sam Navarro finished just outside the 800-meter final, and Kaden Cartwright and Tuomas Narhi narrowly missed the javelin finals, finishing 19th and 18th, respectively. Nelly Jemeli and Marie Rougetet are set to compete Thursday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and hammer throw, respectively.
