Delta State Women’s Soccer Players Earn GSC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Delta State University women’s soccer players Caroline Chandler and Piper Burgess have been recognized with Gulf South Conference weekly honors, the conference announced Monday.

Chandler was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring one goal on three shots, including one on target, and recording an assist in matches against Saint Leo and Eckerd. She contributed to the game-winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Saint Leo on the road. The junior midfielder played a total of 151 minutes over the two matches.

Burgess earned GSC Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a standout performance against Eckerd. The redshirt freshman recorded 11 saves in a 0-0 shutout, playing all 90 minutes. She maintained a perfect save percentage and did not allow a goal against the Tritons.

The Lady Statesmen will continue their road trip today, traveling to Lebanon, Illinois, to face McKendree University. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. Central Time.
