Ole Miss Softball’s Madi George Sets Freshman Home Run Record in Win Over North Alabama

Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George hit two home runs in a 7-3 victory over North Alabama on Tuesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium, setting a new school record for most home runs by a freshman.

George drove in five runs with her two blasts, breaking Lauren Grill’s 2007 record of 14 home runs. Kyra Aycock earned the win in the circle, striking out two over six innings against the Lions.

The game started slowly, with both pitchers effectively controlling the game early. Aycock generated four groundouts and a double play through the first three innings, keeping North Alabama’s offense in check.

Ole Miss took an early lead in the bottom of the third inning. A single by Kennedy Bunker and a walk by Persy Llamas set the stage for George, who launched an opposite-field home run to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead. Aycock continued to dominate, adding a double play and three groundouts over the next two frames.

George’s second home run, a towering two-run shot to center field, extended the lead to 5-0. The Rebels nearly ended the game early in the seventh inning, scoring two more runs on an error following a walk by Laylonna Applin and singles by Taylor Malvin and Bunker. North Alabama responded with three runs in the top of the seventh, but Lilly Whitten shut down the Lions to secure the win.

The Rebels now prepare for SEC play, traveling to face No. 15 LSU beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
