Ole Miss Softball Edges Auburn in High-Scoring Series Finale
Ole Miss defeated Auburn 13-11 Saturday afternoon at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Alabama, securing a critical series victory. The Rebels improved to 30-21 overall and 4-16 in SEC play.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with Ole Miss building an early sizable lead before holding off a late Tiger rally. The Rebels scored 13 runs on 12 hits, including a home run from Madi George and five RBIs. Emilee Boyer pitched in relief to earn the save.
Ole Miss jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Hits from Kennedy Bunker and Persy Llamas, along with a hit-by-pitch, loaded the bases for George, who drove in the first run with an RBI single. Cassie Reasner and Rachel Connors added sacrifice flies to extend the lead.
The Rebels continued their offensive surge in the second inning, with Bunker hitting a two-run home run and George belting her 21st home run of the season to make it 8-0. Auburn responded with three runs in the bottom half, but Ole Miss answered back with two more RBIs from Llamas and George in the third inning.
The Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning, closing the gap, but Boyer shut down the rally and secured the final outs to preserve the victory. Ole Miss will face Auburn again Sunday at noon CT, with the game televised on the SEC Network.
Leading the Rebels at the plate, George went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, while Bunker added two hits and two RBIs. Lilly Whitten earned the win in the circle, and Boyer earned the save.
Ole Miss remains on the road for its next game against Mississippi State on May 1-2 before competing in the SEC Tournament, according to team schedules.
