The Belhaven baseball team completed a series sweep of Asbury at Trustmark Park, winning two games that had been delayed by weather. The Blazers improved to 27-11 overall and secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CCS Tournament, where they will face LaGrange next week, according to school officials.

In the opener, Belhaven finished a game that resumed Saturday with an 11-1 victory. The Blazers took control early, answering Asbury’s first-inning run with a quick equalizer. Blake McCarthy scored on an RBI single by Nick Thornton to tie the game at 1-1. Belhaven then exploded in the second inning, loading the bases on a bunt single and a hit-by-pitch. Jake McCann singled in a run, and Thornton added a sacrifice fly. Austin Canale capped the rally with a two-run triple, giving the Blazers a 5-1 lead.

The team continued to add runs in subsequent innings, scoring in the fourth, sixth, and eighth. Trey Smith drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the eighth, helping Belhaven close out the game. Gunner Staten pitched four strong innings, allowing just one run, while relievers combined for four scoreless innings to finish the game.

In the second game, Belhaven secured a 10-2 win. The Blazers scored their first run in the third inning and responded to Asbury’s tie in the fourth with a big five-run inning in the fifth. Owen Abney drew a walk and forced in a run, followed by Trey Smith and Hayden Roberts with RBI singles. Braydon Evans added a two-run single later in the inning to extend the lead.

The Blazers pulled further ahead in the sixth and seventh innings, with Trey Flettrich delivering a two-run single and Jonathan Corona hitting his first career home run, a three-run shot that put the game out of reach. Cole Burton pitched five innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven, while the bullpen finished the game with four scoreless innings.

Belhaven wraps up the regular season at home against Asbury before preparing for the postseason. Fans can follow the team on social media for updates and support Belhaven Athletics through Team Green Giving, according to the school’s athletic department.
