Belhaven Baseball Finishes Regular Season with Win Over Asbury, Prepares for CCS Tournament
PEARL, Miss. — Belhaven Baseball finished the regular season with an 11-6 win over Asbury at Trustmark Park. The Blazers, who finished with a 28-11 record, earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CCS Tournament.
Asbury took an early lead in the first inning with a leadoff double and subsequent baserunners, scoring one run. Belhaven responded immediately. Nick Thornton doubled and scored on a single by Chess Parker, tying the game at 1-1.
The Eagles regained the lead in the second, adding two runs to go ahead 3-1. The Blazers countered in the third, with Owen Abney driving in two runs with a double to tie the game at 3-3. In the following innings, Belhaven took the lead, with RBI singles from Abney and others helping to push the score to 4-3.
The decisive inning came in the sixth, when Belhaven loaded the bases and scored six runs. Jake McCann cleared the bases with a line drive, and Blake McCarthy added an RBI single. The Blazers built a 10-3 lead, which Asbury trimmed to 10-6 in the eighth.
John Wade came in during the eighth inning and kept the Eagles from closing the gap further. Belhaven added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, and Wade finished the game with a scoreless ninth. Wade secured the save, ending the game.
Belhaven will face LaGrange in the opening round of the CCS Tournament on Wednesday. The Blazers previously swept the Panthers in a series earlier this month. The tournament will be hosted at Trustmark Park, with tickets available online. Single-day passes cost $20, and CCS students with a valid ID can receive a 50% discount.
