Mississippi College Sweeps Delta State in Softball Series

Mississippi College wrapped up a series sweep of Delta State on Sunday with an 11-5 victory at University Field, according to the university. The Choctaws hit four home runs in the game and extended their winning streak to three games heading into the final regular-season series.

The game started with the Choctaws taking an early lead. Mary Lem hit a two-run home run in the second inning, but Delta State responded with a solo shot from Maeve Lavoy. Mississippi College responded strongly in the third inning, with Ellie Fryar leading off with a solo homer, followed by a two-run blast from Blakely Gill. Megan Matheis added a solo home run later in the inning, giving the Choctaws a 6-1 advantage, according to the school.

Delta State attempted a comeback, with Laney Daigrepont hitting a two-run homer in the third and adding runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Despite the rally, Mississippi College maintained its lead. Fryar led the offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Gill also had three hits and two RBIs, while Lem contributed three RBIs, the school reported.

On the mound, Camryn Bailey earned the win, allowing one run over two innings. Relief pitchers AK Willingham and Grace Wallis combined to hold Delta State to four runs over the final five innings. The Choctaws added insurance runs through sacrifice flies and Fryar’s second home run in the sixth inning, which capped the scoring, according to the school.

Mississippi College will finish the regular season on the road against West Alabama, starting Thursday at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a doubleheader Friday in Livingston, Alabama.
