Lady Statesmen Lose Series Finale to Mississippi College 11-5
Delta State University softball lost its series finale to Mississippi College 11-5 on Sunday at University Field. The Choctaws took control early with a power surge, hitting five home runs and building an 8-3 lead through four innings, according to the schools.
Mississippi College scored multiple runs in four different frames and never trailed after a two-run homer in the second inning. Delta State responded with solo home runs from Maeve Lavoy and a two-run blast from Laney Daigrepont in the third to cut the deficit to 6-3. The Lady Statesmen added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings but couldn’t close the gap.
Lavoy led Delta State offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Daigrepont also finished 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Ally Agner contributed a hit and an RBI, while Joryie McKnight and Carly Dunigan added hits. Lavoy took the loss after allowing six runs in 2.2 innings. Relief was handled by Kendal Moore, Ellie Cox, and Grace Pippin.
Ellie Fryar paced Mississippi College with a 3-for-4 effort, including two home runs and three runs scored. Blakely Gill and Mary Lem each drove in multiple runs. Delta State totaled eight hits and committed no errors in the game.
The Lady Statesmen will return to conference play next week with a final three-game series at Lee University.
