Mississippi College Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Delta State, Clinches Series

Mississippi College softball swept a doubleheader against Delta State on Saturday at University Field, winning 14-2 and 2-1. The victories improved the Choctaws’ record to 27-19-1 and secured the series win heading into Sunday’s finale.

In the opening game, Mississippi College scored early and often. Blakely Gill delivered a two-RBI single in the first inning, driving in Morgan Lavergne and Ellie Fryar. The Choctaws broke the game open in the third inning, capitalizing on defensive errors to score four runs, highlighted by RBIs from Mary Lem and Hadley Lemons. Fryar added a solo homer in the fourth, extending the lead to 7-2. The team sealed the run-rule victory in the sixth, scoring seven runs with a three-RBI double from Lem and a two-RBI single from Madelyn Halle.

Camryn Bailey earned the win, improving to 13-8. She allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts over five innings. In game two, Mississippi College edged Delta State 2-1 in extra innings. Delta State took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but the Choctaws responded in the sixth when Megan Matheis drove in Fryar with an RBI single. The game remained tied until the eighth, when Matheis hit a solo homer to right-center, securing the victory. Reagan Rios pitched the entire game, allowing one run on five hits with four strikeouts to earn her 9th win of the season. Matheis led the offense in game two, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including the game-winning homer.

The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. at University Field.
