Ole Miss Softball Advances to Regional Final After Comeback Win Over Boston University

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Ole Miss softball team overcame an opening-game loss to defeat Boston University 9-4 on Sunday and move into the Lubbock Regional final of the NCAA Tournament, according to the university’s athletics department.

The Rebels (36-25) lost their first game of the day 10-9 in eight innings to Texas Tech, the 11th seed and host. They responded with a convincing win over Boston University, the 14th seed, to stay alive. Ole Miss must now win twice in the regional final to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals.

In the first game of the day, Ole Miss jumped to an early lead with a solo home run by Kennedy Bunker. Emilee Boyer pitched effectively, carrying a no-hit bid into the fifth inning. The Rebels added to their lead in the fourth and seventh innings, but Texas Tech rallied in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to force extra innings. A sacrifice fly by Taylor Pannell ended the game in Texas Tech’s favor.

In the subsequent elimination game, Ole Miss responded strongly. The team opened with a home run by Madi George and added more runs in the third and fifth innings, including a three-run blast by Bunker. Boston University attempted a comeback, scoring two runs in the first and two more in the sixth, but Ole Miss reliever Kyra Aycock kept the Terriers at bay.

Boyer entered in relief to close out the game, striking out two in the seventh inning. The Rebels will face Texas Tech again Sunday at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN2, needing to win twice to advance. The winner will move on to the super regionals.

Ole Miss is seeking its first regional title since 2019. The team’s head coach, Jamie Trachsel, expressed confidence in her squad’s resilience following the comeback victory, according to the athletics department.
