Ole Miss baseball season ends with 12-8 loss to Troy at College World Series

OMAHA, Neb. — Ole Miss baseball’s season ended Sunday with a 12-8 loss to Troy in the College World Series. The Rebels, making their seventh CWS appearance, finished with a 41-23 record under head coach Mike Bianco.

Hunter Elliott, in his third career start in Omaha, pitched 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits. He struck out nine and walked four. JP Robertson took the loss, surrendering two earned runs in 1.2 innings.

Ole Miss’s offense was led by the bottom of the order. Austin Fawley, Brayden Randle, and Collin Reuter combined to go 6-for-14 with two home runs and five RBIs. Hayden Federico added a double and an RBI in a 2-for-3 effort.

The Rebels jumped ahead early. Dom Decker doubled to start the bottom of the first, scoring on a wild pitch. Federico’s double brought home Decker, giving Ole Miss a 2-0 lead. Troy responded in the second with a two-run homer to tie the game at 2.

Ole Miss retook the lead in the second inning, as Randle hit his fourth home run of the season, making it 4-2. Reuter’s eighth home run of the year extended the lead to 6-2 in the fourth. Troy rallied in the fifth, tying the game and eventually taking the lead with a seven-run seventh inning, including a leadoff homer.

The Trojans added three more runs in the eighth to go up 12-6. Will Furniss hit his ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough to close the gap. Troy’s late-inning surge sealed the victory and ended Ole Miss’s season.
