Jackson State Ranked Third in Inaugural Black College Football Preseason Poll
HOUSTON, Texas — Jackson State, the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division champion last season, was ranked third in the inaugural Black College Football Preseason Poll, released Thursday.
The Tigers received 149 votes, including four first-place votes, finishing ahead of Alabama State, which garnered 141 votes and six first-place votes. The poll ranks the top 10 HBCU football teams, with Jackson State positioned behind South Carolina State and Prairie View A&M.
South Carolina State, the defending national champion, was selected first with 185 votes and 36 first-place votes. Prairie View A&M was second with 165 votes and two first-place votes. The remaining top teams include North Carolina Central, Delaware State, Grambling State, Bethune-Cookman, Texas Southern, and Florida A&M.
The Black College Football Poll is officially endorsed by the four NCAA conferences that sponsor HBCU football — the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, and SIAC. It will be released weekly throughout the college football season, with voters submitting a Top 10 ballot scored on a 10-point system.
