Mississippi State’s Kelley Jones Focuses on Present, Eyes NFL Future
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State cornerback Kelley Jones remains focused on his current season, despite strong NFL Draft projections placing him among top prospects, according to sources familiar with his status.
Jones, a senior, has seen his stock rise after a standout 2025 season that included earning multiple All-SEC honors. He allowed the fewest receptions of any cornerback in the Southeastern Conference and became a key player for the Bulldogs’ defense.
Jones said he is not letting the hype distract him. “I’m just keeping God first and being thankful for the situation that he’s blessed me to be in,” he said. “I’m not worrying about the draft. I’m here right now and taking it day by day, staying calm and staying level.”
The Clarksdale, Mississippi native credits his upbringing for his work ethic. He noted that nothing was handed to him growing up and that success comes from effort and perseverance. Jones redshirted in 2023 before making an impact in 2024 and 2025.
His teammates and coaches see him as a leader and a potential NFL cornerstone. Fellow defensive back Isaac Smith said Jones is a “freak of nature” and urged him to stay humble and focused. Jones plans to continue building on his momentum, aiming to be even more dominant this season.
Jones said he attributes his progress to faith and hard work. “I really do feel like it was God that put me in the situation to do all this,” he said. “So, I’m going to embrace this moment and every moment. I’m up for the challenge.”
