Jackson State dominates Alabama A&M in series opener with 18-1 win
Jackson State defeated Alabama A&M 18-1 in the opening game of their Southwestern Athletic Conference series Friday at Bulldog Field in Huntsville, Alabama. The Tigers scored early and pulled away with an eight-run fifth inning, securing the run-rule victory.
Jackson State took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and three more in the third to push the score to 6-0. The Tigers added eight runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run from Tyree Reed, his seventh of the season, tying him for the team lead with Pierre Cabral.
The Tigers pounded out 18 hits, with four players recording multiple hits. Robert Tate Jr. went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Cabral finished 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs. Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. also went 3-for-4, adding a double, three RBIs, and three runs. Shemar Harris had three RBIs and scored once, while Diego Melendez contributed three RBIs and a double.
Starting pitcher Talmadge Davis earned the win, pitching a complete game and allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out seven and walked two, marking his 18th strikeout in his last two outings.
