ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The No. 16 Blue Mountain Christian University men’s golf team opened its fall season with a second-place finish at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational at Sea Palms Golf Resort. The Toppers shot rounds of 282, 270, and 278 on the par-71 course to finish with a three-round total of 830.
The team finished five strokes behind tournament champion Reinhardt, which posted a score of 825. BMCU was led by Alex Nordstrom, who claimed the individual title with a 12-under-par total of 199 (70-65-64). Nordstrom opened with a 70, then fired a 65 in the second round and a 64 in the final round to secure the win.
Cobey Riddle finished third overall at nine-under-par with a three-round score of 204 (69-68-67). He improved his score in each round and played all three rounds under par. Axel Houdaille also finished inside the top seven, ending seventh at four-under-par with a 209 (70-66-73), highlighted by a 66 in the second round.
Coach Kevin Barefield praised his team’s performance, saying, “I thought our guys did a tremendous job competing from start to finish. Alex had an outstanding tournament, and Cobey and Axel contributed strong golf as well. Finishing second with three players inside the top seven gives us a lot to build on.”
Also scoring for BMCU were Carlos Frutos, tied for 29th at four-over-par (217), and Acen Lambert, tied for 40th at eight-over-par (221). The team’s best round was in the second, when they combined for a 270, 14 strokes better than the opening round. They followed with a 278 in the final round to secure second place.
In addition to the team effort, BMCU had two golfers compete individually. Ayers Mathis finished tied for 16th at one-over-par (214), and Adrian Perez tied for 24th at three-over-par (216). With a strong start to their fall campaign, the Toppers look to build on their momentum ahead of upcoming competitions.
