Montgomery, Alabama — Alex Nordstrom of Blue Mountain Christian University has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week. The award follows his performance at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invite at Sea Palms Golf Resort in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Nordstrom won the individual title with a three-round score of 12-under par, finishing at 199 (70-65-64) on the par-71 course. He improved his score each round, opening with a 70, then shooting a 65 and a 64 in the final two rounds.
The BMCU standout’s performance helped lead the No. 16-ranked team to a second-place finish out of 15 teams. His coach, Kevin Barefield, praised Nordstrom’s patience and consistency. “Alex was outstanding all week,” Barefield said. “He stayed patient, trusted his game and continued to get better as the tournament went along. Shooting 65 and 64 in the final two rounds is impressive golf, and I’m proud of the way he competed and helped put our team in a position to have a strong finish.”
Nordstrom’s victory marked a strong start to the season for the Toppers, who placed three golfers inside the top seven individually at the tournament. The weekly honor follows his return as a key leader after an All-American season last year.
