Northwest Mississippi Volleyball’s Hurdle, Rodriguez Named to All-Tournament Team

CUllman, Alabama — Northwest Mississippi Community College’s volleyball team went 4-0 at the Wallace State Invitational, earning two players spots on the All-Tournament Team. Valerie Hurdle and Chloe Rodriguez received the honors for their performances during the event, according to school officials.

Rodriguez, a freshman from Jonesboro, Arkansas, was one of the top setters at the tournament. She recorded 20 or more assists in every match except the final, when she finished with 17 in a win over Wallace State-Hanceville. She totaled 82 assists over four matches, adding 10 block assists and two kills. Rodriguez ranks fourth in the conference with 305 assists this season and is nearing 750 for her career, officials said.

Hurdle, a freshman from Holly Springs, Mississippi, also contributed significantly. She finished the tournament with 37 kills and a .416 hitting percentage, with a career-best .818 in a match against Roane State Community College. Her offensive production has helped her lead the team with 143 kills and a .310 hitting percentage this season.

Northwest improved to 19-0 after defeating No. 23 Jones College on Monday. The team aims to extend its winning streak to 20 games Wednesday on the road against Northeast Mississippi Community College. Fans can follow Northwest athletics at nwccrangers.com or through social media updates.
