PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Blue Mountain Christian Women’s Golf finished eighth in a competitive field at The Invite at Innisbrook, held at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. The Toppers shot rounds of 316, 318, and 314 on the par-71, 5,998-yard course, totaling 948 (+96) for the tournament.
The team’s best round came Tuesday, with a 314. The field included five teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25, such as No. 3 Dalton State, No. 10 Southeastern, No. 12 Truett McConnell, No. 15 Pikeville and Tied for 25th Coastal Georgia. BMCU finished ahead of Pikeville and Coastal Georgia in the final standings.
Ansley Pratt led the Toppers, finishing 20th individually with a three-round score of 230. She opened with a 77, shot 78 in the second round, and closed with her best round of 75, the lowest by a BMCU golfer during the tournament.
Karla Frutos placed 29th with a 235. She opened with a 77, followed with a 76, and finished with an 82. Morgan Dabbs tied for 35th at 238, after rounds of 78, 83, and 77. Erin Porter finished 47th at 247, improving each day with rounds of 84, 83, and 80. Kayla Shaull rounded out the lineup in 54th with a total of 251, highlighted by an 81 in Monday’s second round.
“I was proud of the way our ladies competed in a really strong field,” BMCU head coach Kevin Barefield said. “We had some good stretches of golf over the three rounds, and I thought we did a nice job of finishing the tournament strong today. Playing against this type of competition gives us a good opportunity to see where we are and what we need to continue working on.”
Dalton State claimed the team title with a score of 870, while Southeastern finished second at 880. Truett McConnell placed third at 924. BMCU finished just one stroke behind seventh-place Spring Hill and five strokes ahead of ninth-place Reinhardt.
