Mississippi State Men’s Golf Advances to SEC Match Play Championship
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Mississippi State men’s golf team will compete in the SEC Championship match play for the third time after finishing sixth in stroke play at Sea Island Golf Club, according to a university release.
The Bulldogs secured their spot in the quarterfinals with a combined score of 826, finishing just ahead of Oklahoma and South Carolina. Mississippi State’s previous appearances in match play came in 2022 and 2023, all under head coach Dusty Smith.
Mississippi State will face No. 3 seed Texas at 7:20 a.m. Central Time in the quarterfinals. The team was led by Dain Richie, who shot a 2-under 68 in the final round to finish seventh overall with a total score of 202, eight under par for the event. Richie posted under-par rounds all three days, marking his sixth consecutive round of par or better.
Ugo Malcor finished tied for 17th with a total score of 205, helping him secure his eighth top-20 finish of the season. Jackson Skinner rebounded from a difficult front nine in the third round with three birdies in a four-hole stretch. Garrett Endicott finished 35th after a final round of 72, and Jackson Cook ended the tournament with a 74 in the third round.
Mississippi State’s journey in the SEC Championship continues with their quarterfinal matchup against Texas, with play set to begin at 7:20 a.m. CT, according to the tournament schedule.
