Hinds Track & Field’s Matthew Sullivan Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

Ruston, La. — Hinds Community College hurdler Matthew Sullivan was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week. Sullivan earned the award following his performance at the Jim Mize Invitational over the weekend, where he finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.49 seconds.

Sullivan is the fifth athlete from Hinds to be recognized this outdoor season, joining the school’s 4×100 relay team. The relay team includes Raheem Pinnock of Linstead, Jamaica; Jayval Wright of Hayes, Jamaica; Robert Turner of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; and Curtis Coleman of Statesboro, Georgia.

Hinds Track & Field is scheduled to compete next Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge. The team continues to build momentum heading into the postseason, according to school officials.
