Puckett’s Kellum Named SLIAC Field Athlete of the Week
Columbus, Miss. — Sophomore Noel Kellum from Puckett, Mississippi, has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Field Event Athlete of the Week for the week of April 13-19, 2026, according to the league office.
Kellum set a school record in the discus with a throw of 40.84 meters (134 feet, 0 inches) at the Southeastern Louisiana University Strawberry Relays on April 17. His mark was the top in the SLIAC this season and surpassed his previous best. Of the eight competitors ahead of Kellum at the meet, six were NCAA Division I athletes, according to the league.
“I’m very proud of Noel for this achievement,” MUW track and field coach Dedrick Burnett said. “He’s been attempting to get this award all season, and his hard work has finally led him to it. He has consistently thrown 40 meters in the discus over the past two weeks, and that sparks a lot of confidence going into the conference meet.”
Kellum is considered a versatile athlete for The W, competing not only in discus but also in shot put, javelin, and running events ranging from sprints to middle-distance. He is also MUW’s first-ever decathlete in 2026 and participates in cross country, adding distance running to his skill set.
