Coahoma Lady Tigers Fall Twice to Southwest Mississippi in Softball Doubleheader

Clarksdale, Mississippi — The Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday. The Lady Bears won Game 1 by a 12-3 margin and took Game 2, 6-3.

Southwest Mississippi controlled the opener early, scoring in the second inning and building an 8-0 lead by the third. Taylor Shingler started for Coahoma, allowing 12 runs, 11 earned, on 17 hits over 6 2/3 innings. She struck out four and walked three. Annabelle Berryhill led Coahoma with two RBIs, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Kaylee Ables, Adrianna Catchings, Zakathryn Cameron and Laney Wallace each had one hit. The Lady Tigers turned one double play, while Southwest Mississippi finished Game 1 with 18 hits and no errors.

In Game 2, Southwest Mississippi scored first in the third inning on a double and an error. Coahoma responded in the bottom half with a single from Destiny Benefield that brought in a run, and Berryhill’s sacrifice fly tied the game. The Lady Bears regained the lead in the fifth inning with a three-run single and held on for the win. Benefield pitched seven innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on 11 hits. She struck out one and did not walk a batter. Coahoma managed six hits in the game, with Berryhill and Ables each contributing one. Cameron drew two walks as the team worked four free passes. Southwest Mississippi finished with 11 hits in the second game.
