Brycelyn Townsend Named CCS Rookie of the Year in Women’s Track and Field

BELHAVEN, Miss. — Brycelyn Townsend made an immediate impact in her first season at Belhaven University, earning the 2026 CCS Women’s Track & Field Female Rookie of the Year award, according to the conference.

Townsend, a freshman hurdler, improved throughout the season, establishing herself as one of the top athletes in the conference. She finished with the top time in the CCS in the 100-meter hurdles and was near the top in the 400 hurdles, according to sources.

Her breakthrough came at the Belhaven Invitational, where she posted a personal-best 15.69 seconds in the 100 hurdles. The time was the fastest in the conference all season. She continued to trim her times, winning the event at the Belhaven Mid Week Challenge in 16.92 seconds and lowering her mark to 16.29 seconds at the Southern Miss Invitational. At the Rhodes 7-Way Meet, she ran 15.96 seconds.

Townsend capped her season with a victory at the CCS Championships, winning the 100 hurdles in 15.92 seconds. She also finished second in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best 1:07.95, down from her previous season times in the 1:14 range. She contributed to Belhaven’s relay team, which won the conference title in 4:12.90 in the 4×400 relay.
