Smithville boys get win in first game of season as girls fall to Myrtle
The Seminoles started off the season with a road victory against Myrtle thanks to a huge third quarter offensive output.
Smithville led the home team Hawks just 23-14 at the half but put up 26 third quarter points en route to a 69-39 victory.
Smithville jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead thanks to a balanced scoring attack from Blake Williams, Brian Coxey and Mason Blair. Khirei Standifer used his quickness to get into the paint, setting up open shooters and going to the rim for scores.
Standifer led the Seminoles with 19 points and 5 steals.
In girls action, the Lady Seminoles fell 56-44 to start the season 0-1. Smithville held a 24-19 halftime advantage but was not able to hold on.
Orlandria Smith led with 13 points. Carli Cole added 10.
