FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Southern Miss’s women’s golf team finished the first day of the Ben Connell Ram Classic with a team score of 16-over 592 through 36 holes, according to the tournament organizers.
Morgan Guepet led the Golden Eagles, carding an even-par 144 and sitting tied for 19th individually. She opened with a 1-over 73 before shooting a 1-under 71 in the afternoon, which included an eagle on the par-5 16th hole. Her second-round effort moved her up four spots on the leaderboard, the organizers said.
Louise Cuyvers shot rounds of 74 and 73 for a total of 3-over 147, tied for 35th. Liv Romer and Savannah Van Gaalen both posted totals of 7-over 151, tied for 54th, with Romer shooting 76 and 75, and Van Gaalen 77 and 74. Chloe Stevenazzi finished at 9-over 153, tied for 65th, after rounds of 76 and 77.
As a team, Southern Miss opened with an 11-over 299 in the first round, sitting in 11th place. A 5-over 293 in the second round dropped the team two spots, with Northern Colorado overtaking them by a single stroke. The team stands 13th overall heading into Tuesday’s final round.
UNLV leads the tournament at 12-under 564 after rounds of 2-under and 10-under. Washington is second at 6-under, followed by UC Davis at 5-under, San Diego State at 3-under, and Cal Poly at 1-under, rounding out the top five, the tournament website reported.
