Delta State Men’s Golf Opens Third at Sam Dunning Invitational

WEST POINT, Miss. — The Delta State University men’s golf team concluded the first day of the Sam Dunning Invitational with a team score of 568, 8 under par, at Mossy Oak Golf Course. The team recorded 33 birdies over 36 holes, according to the school.

Gonzalo De Minon led the way for the Statesmen, tying for seventh place individually after shooting 71 in the first round and 70 in the second, for a total of 141, three under par. Linus Utter is in 11th place after two rounds, with consistent scores of 72 and 71. Evans Haynie shot rounds of 72 and 72, finishing the day with a total score of 144, even par.

Senior Niko Salmi posted the lowest round of the day with a 68, putting him in second place after that round. Salmi is tied for 29th overall after two rounds, at three over par. The Statesmen are scheduled to return to the course at 8:30 a.m. for the final round of the tournament.
