Delta State Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Sam Dunning Invitational

The Delta State University men’s golf team finished third at the Sam Dunning Invitational held at Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point on Tuesday. The Statesmen posted a three-round total of 864, even par on a par 72 course.

In the final round, Delta State shot 17 birdies, one fewer than the 18 birdies they recorded in the first round. Gonzalo De Minion and Evans Haynie, both sophomores, led the team with each finishing tied for ninth place. They recorded a three-round total of 216, which is even par for the tournament.

Haynie maintained consistency throughout the event, shooting 72 in each round. Freshman Linus Utter also posted a strong debut, finishing in the top 25 with a three-round total of 220 (+4).

The Statesmen will return to action next week at the NCAA Southeast/South Regional Preview in Dade City, Florida. The tournament will be held at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
