The University of Southern Mississippi women’s golf team finished third at the Tulane Classic held at TPC Louisiana in New Orleans. The Golden Eagles’ third-place finish marked their best season opener since winning the USA Intercollegiate in 2016, according to school officials.
Louise Cuyvers led the team, finishing fourth individually with a total score of 215. She shot rounds of 67, 75, and 73, and recorded 12 birdies during the tournament. Cuyvers finished three strokes behind the winner, Francesca Pompa of Tulane.
Two other Golden Eagles placed in the top 15. Savannah Van Gaalen tied for 14th after a final-round 70, and Liv Romer tied for 12th with a total score of 221. Romer posted rounds of 72, 73, and 76. Morgan Guepet and Ava Bates also contributed solid performances, with Guepet tying for 33rd and Bates finishing tied for 51st.
Tulane edged out Samford to claim the team title, both finishing at one-over par on Wednesday. Southern Miss finished five-over par. Tulane’s Francesca Pompa won the individual crown by one stroke.
The Golden Eagles will next compete at the Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado, on September 21 and 22, at Ptarmigan Golf Course.
