Southern Miss Women’s Golf Opens Season at Tulane Classic

The Southern Miss women’s golf team began its 2026 campaign Tuesday at the Tulane Classic, held at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana. The two-day event features a 13-team field including Georgia State, Howard, Jackson State, Lamar, Loyola, LSU, Samford, San Diego State, Southern, Tarleton, Tulane, Louisiana, and West Florida.

Play started with an 8 a.m. shotgun Tuesday, with 36 holes scheduled for the day. The final round is set for 8 a.m. Wednesday. The course measures 6,275 yards and is a par-72 layout designed by Pete Dye, with input from TOUR players Steve Elkington and Kelly Gibson, a New Orleans native.

Southern Miss’s lineup includes Louise Cuyvers, Savannah Van Gaalen, Liv Romer, Chloe Stevenazzi, Morgan Guepet, and Ava Bates, who is making her debut with the team. Cuyvers, in her third season, led the team in stroke average last year with 73.11, the second-best in school history, and is second in career stroke average.

Van Gaalen and Romer both played in all 10 events last season, with Van Gaalen averaging 76.1 strokes per round and Romer 77.1, including a top-five finish at The Judson. Guepet participated in six events, contributing to team wins at The Lady Clerico and The Judson. Stevenazzi joined the team in January but has not yet competed, while Bates transferred from Northern Arizona last season.

Designed by Pete Dye, TPC Louisiana is known for its challenging layout, featuring over 100 bunkers, including large waste bunkers on the back nine. The course offers five sets of tees, from 5,121 yards for women to 7,400 yards for PGA TOUR professionals, providing a range of difficulty levels.
