NEW ORLEANS — The University of Southern Mississippi women’s golf team finished the first day of the Tulane Classic in second place, just six strokes behind the lead. The Golden Eagles were led by Louise Cuyvers, who is tied for first after two rounds at TPC Louisiana.
Cuyvers opened her junior season with a five-under 67, which included four birdies in a five-hole stretch. Her score tied her career low and is the third-lowest single-round score in program history, according to the school. She added a 75 in the second round, bringing her total to 142 and keeping her tied for first overall.
Southern Miss teammate Liv Romer contributed with an even-par 72 in the first round and followed with a 73 in the second, totaling 145 and tying for fourth. Savannah Van Gaalen shot 75-77 for a total of 152, while Chloe Stevenazzi and Morgan Guepet each finished with 155 and 156, respectively. Ava Bates, playing as an individual, shot 83-79 for a total of 162 in her debut.
As the final round approaches Wednesday at 8 a.m., Cuyvers is paired with San Diego State’s Amelia Garibaldi. The Golden Eagles trail Tulane by six strokes but lead Samford by one. Live scoring and updates are available through the school’s athletics website and social media channels.
Southern Miss will aim for its first tournament victory of the season as they seek to overtake Tulane in the standings.
