Owls Women’s Soccer Suffers 9-0 Loss at Rhodes

Memphis University for Women’s women’s soccer team experienced a tough defeat Tuesday at Rhodes College. The Owls fell 9-0 against the undefeated Lynx, who improved to 3-0-0.

Rhodes took control early, scoring just 24 seconds into the match and building a 7-0 lead by halftime. The Owls, with a roster featuring many newcomers, struggled to contain the host team’s offense.

MUW sophomore goalkeeper Layla Escobedo faced 25 shots on goal and made 16 saves. Her performance marked the fifth-highest single-match total in program history for saves, according to team records. Escobedo has now started three consecutive games in place of veteran goalkeeper Cam Lopez, who is sidelined.

The Owls will have a week to prepare before their next game, a home match against Millsaps College scheduled for Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Roger Short Soccer Complex.
