Northwest Volleyball Achieves Top-25 Win Over Jones College in Sweep

Senatobia, Miss. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team earned a significant victory Tuesday, sweeping No. 23 Jones College in three sets. The Rangers improved to 19-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, extending their winning streak at home to five matches, according to team officials.

Northwest dominated the first set, jumping to a 10-2 lead behind an eight-service run from Reese McIntosh. Jones College closed the gap to 18-15 but could not catch the Rangers, who closed out the set 25-15. Adalyn Callahan, a sophomore, credited their early rhythm and solid defense for the strong start.

In the second set, Jones College capitalized on serving errors by Northwest, taking a 7-6 lead and eventually extending it to four points. Callahan then led a pivotal service run that lasted through two Bobcat timeouts, helping Northwest regain control and win 25-23. The team continued their momentum in the third set, with Callahan leading a 10-0 run to open the frame. The Rangers maintained their lead, finishing the match with a 25-15 victory.

Offensively, Sofia Gonzalez led the team with 12 kills, followed by Valerie Hurdle with 10. Ariana Woods added eight kills, four aces, and two blocks for a total of 13 points. The team also spread out their assists, with Chloe Rodriguez recording 14 and Dallas White 10. The back line was a standout, tallying 46 digs, including 15 from Jania Rose and nine from Callahan.

Callahan emphasized the importance of trust among the defensive players, noting that their cohesive effort allowed the offense to focus on transition and hitting. With the win, the Rangers improve to 2-0 in conference, preparing for their next match against Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. Despite their undefeated record, Callahan said the team remains focused on their ultimate goal: qualifying for the national tournament.
