Delta State’s women’s soccer team secured a 6-1 victory over UAH on Sunday at Delta Field, marking its most complete performance of the season, according to the school.
The Lady Statesmen (2-3-2, 1-1-1 Gulf South Conference) took control early, scoring five goals in the first half. Avery Hooker opened the scoring in the 15th minute, assisted by Emma Earwood. Moments later, Mariela Dolan scored unassisted to double the lead.
Delta State continued its offensive surge late in the first half. Millie Congerton scored in the 39th minute off a pass from Kennedi Turner. Turner added her own goal less than two minutes later, and Millie Webb capped the half with a goal in the 45th minute, giving the Lady Statesmen a 5-0 advantage at halftime.
The team outshot UAH 13-6 in the first half and maintained dominance throughout the match. Hooker scored her second goal in the 56th minute, extending the lead to 6-0. UAH scored its lone goal in the 61st minute.
Delta State finished with a 23-11 shot advantage, placing 10 shots on target and earning eight corner kicks. Goalkeeper Kim Bircher made four saves in 90 minutes to secure the win. Hooker led the team with two goals, while Dolan, Congerton, Turner and Webb each scored once. Earwood, Turner, and Bryleigh Taylor each earned assists.
The Lady Statesmen return to Gulf South Conference play next week, traveling to Livingston, Alabama, to face West Alabama.
