Delta State’s Congerton Named to GSC Preseason All-Conference Team as Lady Statesmen Reach Highest Ranking in Program History

Delta State University women’s soccer senior forward Millie Congerton has been named to the preseason All-Gulf South Conference team, according to the conference office. The Lady Statesmen are ranked fourth in the preseason poll with 87 points, matching their highest ranking in program history, a mark they also achieved in 2021.

Delta State received the fourth-place spot in the poll, which was announced Monday. The team is one of nine returning players for the 2026 season. Last season, the Lady Statesmen posted a 7-6-4 record overall and went 6-3-3 in conference play.

Congerton, from Rickmansworth, England, led the team in scoring last season. She totaled 13 points on six goals and one assist. Her 30 shots on goal ranked third in the conference. The senior earned preseason all-GSC honors for her performance on the field.

The Lady Statesmen open their 2026 campaign next week with a two-match road trip to Florida. They will face Saint Leo on Thursday, Aug. 27, and Eckerd on Saturday, Aug. 29. Their home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26, against Union at 1 p.m.

The preseason poll was topped by Lee University, which received all 10 first-place votes and 120 points. Montevallo was second with 112 points, and West Alabama was third with 94 points.

The preseason team features players from across the conference, including Congerton, who is joined by players from schools such as UAH, Lee, Montevallo, Spring Hill, and West Alabama.
