Games To Watch: State-final berths and a softball decider headline Monday night
Championship opportunities frame Monday night’s Mississippi high school schedule. Center Hill, Lewisburg and Kossuth play volleyball semifinals with a place in a state final available, while Simpson Academy and Copiah Academy meet in the deciding game of their softball series. These are four verified selections for October 12, with all listed starts still ahead at the afternoon check.
Center Hill faces Neshoba Central for a final berth
Center Hill takes a 16–11 record to Philadelphia for a 5:30 p.m. CDT match against 36–4 Neshoba Central. The Class 6A semifinal pairs a Mustangs team still standing after two playoff rounds with a Rockets team that has compiled a much stronger overall record.
Both arrived with second-round sweeps: Center Hill defeated Saltillo 3–0, and Neshoba Central beat Lake Cormorant by the same margin. Those results give this matchup a more immediate point of comparison than the season records alone. The Class 6A bracket sends the winner into the championship match.
Lewisburg and Germantown meet with a state-final place at stake
Lewisburg travels to Germantown in Madison for a 6 p.m. CDT Class 7A semifinal. The Patriots enter 33–8, while the Mavericks are 28–8, making this a meeting of teams whose season-long success now comes down to advancing through the same side of the bracket.
Neither needed a deciding fifth set in the previous round. Lewisburg eliminated Hernando 3–1, and Germantown defeated DeSoto Central 3–1. Their next step is directly to the final, according to the Class 7A bracket.
Kossuth’s winning run meets Belmont’s playoff resilience
Kossuth hosts Belmont at 6 p.m. CDT with the Class 3A final in reach. The 29–4 Aggies bring a 21-match winning streak and have not dropped a set in three playoff matches. Belmont, 16–18, reached this point through a five-set victory over Booneville. That contrast in their routes makes the matchup worth watching: Kossuth has moved through the postseason cleanly, while Belmont has already survived a match that went the distance. Alcorn Sports’ preview details both teams’ paths.
Simpson and Copiah reach the softball decider
Simpson Academy visits Copiah Academy in Gallman at 6:30 p.m. CDT for Game 3 of the MAIS State 4A D1 best-of-three series. Copiah took the opener 9–7, but Simpson answered with an 11–3 win in Game 2. Our Saturday results report covered the response that kept Simpson alive and forced tonight’s deciding game.
MaxPreps lists Simpson at 24–12–1. Copiah’s complete season record has not been independently confirmed. The tied series is the clearest guide to tonight’s stakes.
