Scores from last Night, October 10: Simpson forces decider, Salem rallies, Meridian wins at Pearl
Simpson Academy kept its softball series alive, Salem rescued a volleyball winning streak from a two-set deficit, and Meridian opened region play with a road victory. Those results lead this October 10, 2026 selection of verified Mississippi high school varsity finals: Simpson beat Copiah Academy 11–3, Salem edged Nanih Waiya 3–2, and Meridian defeated Pearl 30–13.
Girls fall softball: Simpson sends the series to a decider
Copiah Academy had won the October 8 opener 9–7, leaving Simpson Academy needing a response in Game 2 of the MAIS State 4A D1 best-of-three series. Simpson supplied it at home Saturday with an 11–3 win. Each team now has a victory in the series, requiring a deciding third game.
The completed Game 2 report lists Simpson at 24–12–1 after the win. The result changes the outlook from the clinching opportunity described in our October 10 Games To Watch preview: Copiah could not finish the series Saturday, and Simpson remains in contention.
Girls volleyball: Salem comes back from two sets down
Salem lost each of the first two sets to Nanih Waiya 25–13, putting its winning streak in danger. The Wildcats then won the next sets 25–15 and 25–16 before taking the deciding set 15–13. The final match report confirms the 3–2 victory in Tylertown.
That comeback made it nine consecutive wins for Salem, according to the MaxPreps recap. The Wildcats improved to 25–5, while Nanih Waiya fell to 13–7. Salem needed all five sets to preserve the run, turning a match that began with two decisive losses into another win.
Boys football: Meridian starts region play with a road win
Meridian defeated Pearl 30–13 in Saturday’s conference game. The updated schedules put Meridian at 4–2 overall and 1–0 in 7A Region 3, with Pearl at 2–5 and 0–1. The Wildcats leave the region opener with a victory; the Pirates begin their region schedule with a loss.
