Scores from last Night: East Union reaches 35-0; Pillow breaks through

East Union kept its unbeaten season moving through the volleyball playoffs Monday, October 5, 2026, while Pillow Academy finally put a victory beside its name in the reported results. The Urchins swept New Site to reach 35-0; Pillow won in four sets at Simpson Academy for its first reported win.

The day also brought a busy round of MAIS fast-pitch softball at Magee Sports Complex. Hartfield, Parklane, Wayne, Laurel Christian and Tunica each won twice to stay on the winners’ side of their tournament brackets. Their work advanced them into Tuesday’s play, with championship places still to be decided.

East Union keeps the zero, advances in Class 2A

New Site could not break East Union’s run. The Urchins won 25-10, 25-10, 25-12 in their Class 2A second-round match in Blue Springs, leaving the Royals at 17-7. East Union kept New Site to 12 points or fewer in every set, turning the playoff meeting into another straight-set victory.

That result answers the central question in Monday’s Games to Watch preview: whether New Site could interrupt the unbeaten Urchins. East Union’s updated record is 35-0, with its postseason still alive.

Pillow finishes the job in Mendenhall

Pillow Academy’s 3-1 road win over Simpson Academy changed the Mustangs’ posted record to 1-12. The teams split the first two sets, Pillow taking the opener 25-15 before Simpson answered 25-23. Pillow then won the third 25-18 and the fourth 25-12 to complete the non-conference victory.

The second-set loss did not become a turning point against the Mustangs: they closed with consecutive set wins. Simpson’s updated posted record also stands at 1-12. Those records reflect the results reported to MaxPreps.

More volleyball: Rossville sweeps, playoff teams move on

DeSoto Christian Academy, still listed on MaxPreps as Desoto County Academy, fell 3-0 at Rossville Christian Academy in Tennessee. Rossville won 25-12, 25-22, 25-10, improving to 20-13. The Ambassadors’ reported record is 0-3; the closest set was the second, when they reached 22 points.

Elsewhere in the MHSAA playoffs, Lafayette opened its Class 5A run by sweeping Vicksburg 25-7, 25-5, 25-11. Pass Christian advanced in Class 4A with a 3-1 second-round win over Northeast Lauderdale, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23. Riverside’s Class 1A first-round victory over Lumberton came in three sets, 25-10, 25-6, 25-12.

MAIS softball: narrow escape for Hartfield, two wins for Parklane

Hartfield Academy’s Class 4A Division II day began with the smallest possible winning margin: 1-0 over Starkville Academy. The Hawks followed it with an 8-2 win over Oak Forest Academy. Parklane took a different route through the same bracket, beating Pillow Academy 17-4 and Magnolia Heights 16-0. The official bracket pairs Parklane and Hartfield in Tuesday’s winners’ bracket game.

Wayne Academy also stayed unbeaten in the Class 3A Division II tournament, defeating Riverfield Academy 5-0 and Leake Academy 8-5. Wayne advanced to meet Silliman Institute on the winners’ side. Leake recovered in the elimination bracket with an 18-4 victory over North Delta, while Central Hinds beat Oak Hill 13-3. Those wins kept Leake and Central Hinds alive and placed them opposite one another Tuesday.

Laurel Christian earned its Class 2A winners’ bracket place by shutting out Indianola Academy 12-0 and beating Centreville Academy 5-3. In Class 1A, Tunica Academy defeated Tensas Academy 18-6, then Calhoun Academy 7-4. Both finished Monday without a tournament loss. None of these Monday results settled a championship.
