Southwest Mississippi Men’s Basketball Sends Three Players to Four-Year Universities
Three players from Southwest Mississippi Community College’s men’s basketball team signed with four-year universities on Wednesday, May 6, according to school officials. Robert Flantroy II committed to William Carey University, Courterius Scott signed with Stephen F. Austin University, and Dawson Knox will attend King University.
Flantroy, a two-year player, faced an injury in his freshman season but still appeared in 21 games, averaging 6.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.66 assists per game while shooting 49.4% from the field. During his sophomore year, he played in 29 games, averaging 20 minutes, 5.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.9 assists, with a shooting percentage of 44.3%. Flantroy made a significant impact off the bench for the Bears in both seasons, according to school officials.
Scott, a sophomore, played one season at Southwest and was named to the All-MACCC First Team. He averaged 18.9 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 33 games. Scott shot 49.1% from the field and 41.5% from three-point range, making 76 three-pointers and totaling 605 points for the season. He surpassed 1,000 career points after playing his freshman season at Co-Lin Community College. Scott was named team captain as a newcomer and led the team to the No. 2 seed for the postseason, helping secure a playoff win.
Dawson Knox also spent one season at Southwest, appearing in 31 games primarily in a supporting role. Described as a dominant, physical presence, Knox averaged 2.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, with 18 blocks on the season. He played an average of 15 minutes per game and shot 49.2% from the field, earning praise for his team-first attitude and work ethic.
Southwest Mississippi’s men’s basketball program has sent over 80 players to four-year schools in the past 12 years, according to college officials.
