South Alabama Eliminates Southern Miss from Sun Belt Softball Tournament
LAFAYETTE, La. — Southern Mississippi’s softball season concluded Thursday night after a 13-0 loss to South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference quarterfinals at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.
The Jaguars took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Lillie Stagner. South Alabama added one run in the fourth and exploded for eight runs in the fifth to secure the victory in five innings.
South Alabama pitcher Ryley Harrison earned her 16th win of the season, limiting Southern Miss to just two hits. Kayla Giardina started for the Golden Eagles, allowing one earned run over 3.1 innings. Several pitchers, including McCall Davis, Madilyn Graham, and Briley Whittington, also appeared in relief.
Southern Miss finished the season with a 33-24 record, marking its most wins since 2010 and most conference wins since 2016. The team also saw the careers of seniors Natalie Herrington and Paris Ferguson come to an end.
