Ole Miss Softball Falls to No. 6 Texas in SEC Tournament Quarterfinal
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Ole Miss softball team’s run in the SEC Tournament ended Thursday with a 6-0 loss to No. 6 Texas at John Cropp Stadium.
The Rebels, who finished the season with a 34-24 record, struggled to slow down the Longhorns’ offense. Texas scored early on a solo home run by Leighann Goode in the first inning and extended its lead with three runs in the third. Two more runs came in the bottom of the fifth to seal the victory.
Ole Miss mounted a late effort in the seventh inning, with Madi George reaching second base after a dropped fly ball. Izzy Rettiger pinch ran for George and advanced to third on a passed ball, but the Rebels were unable to bring her home. The Longhorns held on for the win.
The Rebels’ season now shifts to the NCAA Tournament selection process. The NCAA selection show is scheduled for Sunday at 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2. Ole Miss will await its placement into the national tournament, which begins next week.
