Sisters Emma and Lillie Young Continue Soccer Careers Abroad
CLINTON, Miss. — Emma and Lillie Young have long shared a passion for soccer. Growing up in Louisiana, they played together before becoming college teammates at Mississippi College for two seasons, according to sources.
Now, the sisters are thousands of miles apart, pursuing careers overseas. Emma Young competes in Iceland’s top women’s division, while Lillie Young plays in Australia’s National Premier Leagues. Both see their international experiences as a continuation of their soccer journey, the sisters said.
Emma, based in Reykjavík, plays for Fram in the Besta Deildin, Iceland’s premier women’s league. She joined the team midway through last season and is now in her first full season. She highlighted her team relationships as a rewarding aspect of her experience. “We’ve all become really good friends,” Emma said. “It’s a great environment that I don’t think many teams have at this level.”
Meanwhile, Lillie competes for Broadmeadow Magic FC in Newcastle, Australia. She described her adaptation to a new country and team as challenging but emphasized support from her teammates. “My teammates are awesome,” she said. “I’m grateful to keep playing the sport I love.”
The sisters’ connection to Mississippi College remains important. Emma, who arrived at MC in 2019, earned numerous accolades, including All-American honors in 2021. She finished her college career with 80 appearances, six goals, and five assists. Lillie, who joined in 2022, played 52 games, including 18 in her senior season in 2025. Both point to the program’s competitive environment and coaching staff as vital to their development.
Emma said her time at MC helped her develop as a leader and improve her skills. Lillie credited her experience in the Gulf South Conference for pushing her to grow as a player. Their shared journey has fostered a strong bond, with both supporting each other across continents.
They also admire each other’s qualities—Emma respects Lillie’s work ethic and competitiveness, while Lillie looks up to Emma’s leadership. Despite the distance, they stay connected, providing mutual encouragement and understanding.
Both sisters aim to continue advancing their careers. Emma hopes to play at the highest possible level while enjoying her time on the field. Lillie remains open to new opportunities, whether in Australia or elsewhere. Their paths may be miles apart, but their shared experiences and support keep them close.
Emma emphasizes that representing MC means upholding high standards and exemplifying her values. Lillie sees their journey as a testament to the opportunities available to Division II athletes. Their story continues to inspire current and future players pursuing soccer beyond college, the sisters said.
As they look ahead, Emma and Lillie remain committed to their goals. Emma wants to find a rewarding environment to extend her playing career, while Lillie seeks growth in increasingly competitive settings. Their journeys reflect a rare and enduring bond, from childhood to college to the international stage.
