Jackson State Falls to McNeese State 2-0 in Road Match

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Jackson State’s women’s soccer team was defeated 2-0 by McNeese State on Thursday night at Cowgirl Field. The Tigers faced an early goal in the eighth minute but responded with several scoring opportunities in the first half.

Jackson State’s Nahomy Portillo, Kyla Gomez, and Asia Wilson each took shots on goal during the opening half, forcing McNeese goalkeeper Shannon Dempsey to make multiple saves. Despite the pressure, McNeese held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Jackson State goalkeeper Kianah Farmer kept her team in the game with nine saves, including four before halftime and five afterward. Her efforts prevented additional McNeese goals and kept the Tigers within reach.

In the second half, the Tigers continued to fight for an equalizer. Laila Anderson and Cora Kmiec tested the McNeese defense early, while Farmer remained active in goal. McNeese added a second goal in the 67th minute, but Jackson State kept attacking.

In the final minutes, Jackson State generated several scoring threats. Kaila Tablado forced a save in the 88th minute, and Josetiarainnah Olaco followed with another shot. The Tigers finished with 10 shots, seven on target, but could not find the net.

Jackson State will next face ULM in Monroe, Louisiana, on Thursday at 1 p.m. The team aims to build on the competitive elements of Thursday’s match as they continue their early-season schedule.
