Ghoreishi Scores First Goal as Ole Miss Soccer Tops Charleston 1-0
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Ava Ghoreishi scored her first goal as a Rebel, lifting Ole Miss soccer to a 1-0 win against Charleston on Thursday night at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium, according to school officials.
The Rebels, now 3-0-0 under first-year coach Todd Shulenberger, posted their second shutout of the season. Taylor Prigge made four saves to earn her third victory and second clean sheet.
Ole Miss dominated possession and shot attempts, finishing with a 16-1 advantage in shots and placing eight on goal. The Rebels also held a 52% edge in possession and earned six corner kicks to Charleston’s three.
The match was tied at zero at halftime despite Ole Miss’s 10-0 shot advantage. Ghoreishi put the Rebels ahead at 51:19 after a save attempt from Teaghan Irvin. The goal proved to be the game-winner, as Ole Miss maintained the lead and prevented Charleston from creating significant scoring chances in the final minutes.
Charleston’s lone shot came in the 81st minute but was blocked by the Rebel defense. The Cougars did not record another attempt, and Ole Miss secured its third consecutive victory.
The Rebels will conclude their three-match road trip Sunday against UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
