Retired Southern Miss Coach Scott Berry to Join ABCA Hall of Fame Class of 2027

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Scott Berry, the retired head coach of Southern Mississippi’s baseball team, has been chosen for induction into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2027, the organization announced Monday.

Berry, who spent 23 years with the Golden Eagles, will be honored at the ABCA Hall of Fame Banquet on Jan. 8, 2027, during the 83rd annual ABCA Convention in Chicago. Tickets go on sale Sept. 1, according to the organization.

During his coaching career, Berry became the school’s all-time winningest coach. Over 14 seasons, he recorded 528 wins, guided the team to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, two NCAA Super Regional berths, and led the Eagles to 10 straight 40-win seasons—an NCAA Division I record. He received four league Coach of the Year awards and mentored four Ferriss Trophy winners, awarded to Mississippi’s top college player.

Berry also coached 16 All-America players, with 38 conference first-team selections. His players earned national honors, including one Freshman of the Year and one Pitcher of the Year.

The ABCA Hall of Fame, established in 1966, recognizes coaches who have made significant contributions to baseball at various levels. To be eligible, coaches must have served as a head coach for at least 15 years, been an ABCA member, and demonstrated leadership, ethics, and character, according to the organization.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the leading professional organization for amateur baseball coaches, with more than 15,000 members across all 50 states and 41 countries.
