Jones’ Correro, Smith win MACCC Men’s Soccer weekly honors

JACKSON — Jones College’s men’s soccer team opened the season with two wins and earned MACCC Player of the Week honors for its standout performances. Goalkeeper Logan Correro and midfielder Kinson Smith led the No. 7 Bobcats to a 2-0 record, both earning the weekly awards.

Jones defeated Southern Union State 3-0 and St. Louis 6-0 in their first matches of the season. Smith, a sophomore from Northwest Rankin, scored three goals in the two games, tying his season total from his freshman year. Three of his four shots on goal found the back of the net.

Correro, a freshman from Lewisburg, recorded a shutout in 153 minutes and 17 seconds, stopping all four shots he faced. The Bobcats are now 4-0 and will face fifth-ranked Northeast in Pensacola, Florida, on Sept. 3.
