Ole Miss Track & Field Set for Regular Season Finale at LSU Invite
BATON ROUGE, La. — Ole Miss track and field will conclude its outdoor regular season this weekend, with athletes competing at the LSU Invitational and a select runner participating tonight at Mississippi State’s Maroon and White Tune-Up, according to school officials.
The Rebels, who last competed at the Virginia Challenge on April 17-18, are preparing for the SEC Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 14-16 at Auburn. Ole Miss’s men’s team remains ranked 19th nationally in the USTFCCCA rankings for the fifth consecutive week.
Much of the team’s success is attributed to Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan, a 14-time All-American and four-time NCAA shot put champion. He leads the nation in the shot put with a season-best throw of 20.86 meters (68-05.25), which ranks third among Americans and 10th worldwide outdoors, according to the school.
Robinson-O’Hagan also opened his outdoor hammer season with a throw of 77.62 meters (254-8), which led the nation two weeks ago but has since been challenged by competitors from Air Force and Iowa. His early collegiate record of 98.50 meters (323-1) in combined events remains one of the best ever by a collegian, and he continues to rank among the top in NCAA history.
On the women’s side, junior All-American Akaoma Odeluga marked a career-best shot put of 19.23 meters (63-01.25) at the Virginia Challenge. That performance ranks her second in SEC and Ole Miss history and seventh all-time in collegiate outdoor history. Odeluga also ranks second nationally in the hammer throw with a mark of 64.56 meters (211-10).
Transfers Sterling Scott and Kyle Johnson also rank among the top in the triple jump nationally. Scott posted a personal record of 16.43 meters (53-11) at the Ole Miss Classic, ranking seventh nationally and third in the East Region. Johnson’s outdoor debut of 15.75 meters (51-08.25) places him 30th nationally.
Ole Miss’s relay teams continue to perform well, with the men’s 4×100-meter relay ranking 14th nationally after breaking the school record with a time of 38.98 seconds at the Ole Miss Classic. The women’s 4×100 relay also posted its best time in nearly two years, running 43.65 seconds at the Joe Walker Invite.
