Hinds eSports Season Ends on High Note with Playoff Push
RAYMOND, Miss. — Hinds Community College’s eSports program is headed to the playoffs after a successful spring season, according to school officials. The team showcased talent across various games and divisions, positioning itself for a deep postseason run.
In Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Thomas Fair “Morty” finished the regular season with a 7-7 record and secured a spot in the Top 8 regionally. His consistent play has kept Hinds competitive at the Division 1 level. Russell Straight III “Keylarous” posted a 16-2 record in Division 2, earning a Top 6 national ranking. Aston Dowsing “Astro” also had a standout season with a 10-3 record and a Top 16 national ranking, establishing himself as a top NJCAAe competitor.
Julian Johnson “ASAINTKID05” finished the season undefeated at 10-0 in Division 1 and won the Regional Finals, earning a spot in the upcoming NJCAAe Division 1 Grand Finals on May 5. Hinds fans are eager to see if Johnson can propel the team to its first national championship in community college eSports.
Cameron Smith “ISHADOWCHASE” contributed to the team’s success in Madden, finishing with a 5-4 record and a Top 8 national ranking. Meanwhile, Cary Collins “bzrrq” capped an undefeated season in NBA 2K with a perfect 5-0 record and won the Division 3 Opt-In Tournament, highlighting the strength of Hinds’ eSports program this season.
