Ole Miss tops Southern Miss softball 12-5 in midweek game
Oxford, Miss. — Southern Miss softball lost to Ole Miss 12-5 Tuesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The Golden Eagles, with a 30-20 record, scored five runs but struggled to contain the Rebels’ offense.
Southern Miss opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning, thanks to a two-RBI single from Kinsley Gordon-Sivley with bases loaded. Ole Miss responded quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning on six hits, including a three-run home run by Madi George.
The Rebels added two runs in the second inning and another in the third, expanding their lead to 8-2. Southern Miss clawed back in the fourth, with Nealy McManus hitting her first career home run, driving in two runs. Julia Glasgow and Madison Johnson contributed with singles, and Madi George answered for Ole Miss with her second home run of the game, pushing the lead to 9-5.
Ole Miss sealed the win with a double from Cassie Reasner and a subsequent sacrifice fly and throwing error in the sixth inning, scoring three more runs for a 12-5 final. Rebel pitcher Lilly Whitten improved to 7-1, closing out the game with a strikeout.
Nealy McManus’s home run marked her first career hit, and Southern Miss remains 20-4 when scoring five or more runs. The Golden Eagles have now hit three home runs in three consecutive games. They will next face South Alabama in a weekend series starting April 24.
